University Spinout Supplement Certified Secures HPSU Funding to Elevate Global Supplement Quality Standards

Supplement Certified Ltd, a spinout from the Nutrition Research Centre Ireland at South East Technological University (SETU), has secured substantial public and private investment to accelerate its growth and international expansion.

Founded in 2022, Supplement Certified is an independent supplement testing and certification company that provides third-party, ISO-accredited testing to ensure dietary supplements meet their label claims. By applying rigorous scientific standards, the company is helping brands build consumer confidence and uphold product integrity. Supplement Certified, through an international trademark and certification logo distinguishes products that meet strict label claims and stability requirements. Already working with supplement brands across Ireland, Europe, Mexico, UK and the US, Supplement Certified is setting a new benchmark for trust and transparency in the sector.

The latest investment, secured through Enterprise Ireland’s High Potential Start-Up (HPSU) Programme, provides vital support to accelerate Supplement Certified’s global expansion and strengthen its leadership team. The company has recently appointed a new CEO, a Head of Commercial Operations, and additional research analysts to enhance its scientific expertise.

Prof John Nolan, Founder of Supplement Certified, said: “In an industry where trust is often questioned, Supplement Certified is raising the bar for supplement quality. It’s encouraging to see the government recognise the importance of independent supplement verification at a time when current regulations are not fit for purpose. This investment highlights the urgent need for robust, science-backed quality assurance, particularly as we move into the Health 3.0 era, where food supplements will play an increasingly significant role. Our certification provides brands with a trusted mark of quality that consumers and healthcare professionals can rely on.”

Cepta Duffy, Department Manager for Life Sciences and HealthTech at Enterprise Ireland said: “We’re delighted to support Supplement Certified as they take this exciting next step. It’s fantastic to see a company rooted in Waterford and the South East making waves on the global stage. Their growth is a great example of the innovation and ambition emerging from the region, and we’re proud to back them as they expand their team and international reach.

Dr James O’Sullivan, Head of Innovation and Commercialisation at South East Technological University, said, “Supplement Certified is an excellent example of the impact that university-based research can have when combined with entrepreneurial ambition. At SETU, we are committed to supporting spinouts that contribute to regional and global innovation. It’s rewarding to see Supplement Certified grow from our research ecosystem into a company delivering real-world value and trust to consumers and the supplement industry”.
